Experiences of the Area
Visit a Mayan archeological site. Tulum is about twenty minutes south of our Akumal condo rental. This Mayan site features a temple on the bluff overlooking the Caribbean. This site is very interesting, beautiful and well developed. They offer an evening tour with a guided audio tour and light show which we found a lot of fun. The Coba Mayan Site is about an hour from Akumal and provides the visitor a very different experience than Tulum. Coba is inland in the jungle and has the tallest Pyramid on the Yucatan. Chichen Itza is one of the seven wonders of the modern world. About a three and half hour drive to the northwest. You can take a bus tour from Akumal at 8 in the morning and be back about seven at night. The tour includes drinks, continental breakfast, lunch and a visit to a cenote for a swim. Friends of ours have taken this trip and rave about it on their return.
There are many eco- adventure trips you can do. One of our favorites is to visit the cave and cenote at Rancho Santa Cruz. Rancho Santa Cruz is a short distance from Akumal but seems to be in another world. For additional information go to www.akumalguide.com and click on the links page.
Fisherman from around the world come to fish the flats of Ascension Bay. Only 50 miles from Akumal you drive through the Sian Kaan Biosphere, a world heritage site. Over a million acres of protected coastline and inland wetlands. A day trip includes breakfast, lunch, drinks fishing equipment and expert guides. Maximum of two fisherman per boat. Our staff can make arrangements for you. www.pescamaya.com
Eco Theme Parks like Hidden Worlds, Xel Ha and Xcaret are great places to spend a day. (We can help arrange your tours and pre-pay them, no standing in line.)
